Vermiglio joined Telford from Scarborough

AFC Telford midfielder Jamie Vermiglio thought he would never play football again but now he is ready to make his comeback following a broken back.

Vermiglio, 26, looks set to make his comeback against Tamworth on Saturday after specialists told him his back injury was not as bad as first feared.

"I was told I'd never kick a football again and going from that to where I am now is just unbelievable," he said.

"I want to play another season here," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"At the moment I can't feel any pain at all, but I've been exercising over the last three or four days and I'm just trying to get myself fit with the intention of having a run out soon," he added.

Vermiglio went to see a specialist to seek a second opinion, receiving the news that the stress fracture in his back may have been there for many years - giving him the green light to start a recovery programme.

"It's been an up and down season for me," he added. "It would mean ending the season on a high and then I'll be looking forward to playing next season."

The Telford midfielder last played for the Bucks in the FA Trophy quarter-final replay against Southport in February.

Manager Rob Smith told BBC Radio Shropshire he will play some part in the Tamworth match on the last day of the season and he will be an option in the Blue Square North play-offs.

Telford's 3-0 midweek win against Burscough at the New Bucks Head secured their place in the play-offs and they now wait to see who they will be playing.
