Boston United joint-managers Rob Scott and Paul Hurst have released 13 players as they prepare to rebuild the Unibond Premier club's squad for next season.
High-profile casualties include Wes Parker, Jon Rowan and Jon Froggatt.
Scott told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "It was probably more than we'd expected to go until we saw the wages they were on.
"We'd like to have kept a few more but it comes down to finances. We want players who want to play for the club, not chase the money."
Of the eight players retained, strikers Ricky Miller and Ollie Ryan have turned down the initial deals offered to them.
Matt Bloomer is still in negotiations while Lee Beeson, Michael Wood and five youth team players have been invited to take part in pre-season training.
The other players released are Ryan Clarke, David Farrell, Liam Green, Kieran Leabon, Martyn Margarson, Danny Matson, Tom Matthews, Steve Melton, Ben Sedgemore and Chris Wright.
