Boston United joint-manager Rob Scott has said the club may have to release some of their most popular players if they cannot agree to a wage cut.

The Pilgrims were demoted from Blue Square North to the Unibond Premier last season on financial grounds.

Scott told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "A lot of last season's players were on Blue Square North contracts.

"We feel we've got a competitive budget for the Unibond Premier but what we can't do is break our wage structure."

On Friday the club confirmed that goalkeeper Aaron Butcher and defender Liam Parker had agreed new deals for a further season at York Street.

Scott also said he and managerial partner Paul Hurst had received emails from supporters urging them to do all they could to keep the fans' favourite players.

"There are certain players who are favourites at the club and we appreciate that but they have to fit into the scheme of things," said Scott.

"We don't want to go down the route of the boom-or-bust culture, we want firm foundations putting down which will be there for the next two years at least."
