Plater will also race for HM Plant Honda at the Isle of Man TT |
Lincolnshire's Steve Plater moved to the top of the British Supersport Championship after victory in round three at Donington Park on Monday. Starting ninth for HM Plant Honda, Plater made steady progress through the field before passing Paul Young to take the lead two laps from home. He told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "I had to work hard but it was a good battle and the right outcome for me." Plater now has a three-point advantage over Billy McConnell in the standings. Boston's Ben Wilson crossed the line in fifth on the Gearlink Kawasaki but was promoted to fourth after Young's disqualification for having an underweight bike, Lincoln's Lee Jackson was 11th and his Astro Honda team-mate Sam Lowes was the leading Supersport Cup rider, finishing 13th overall. But while HM Plant Honda had success with Plater in Supersport, the Louth-based team struggled in the British Superbike Championship. Glen Richards finished fourth and fifth in the two races, while Josh Brookes missed the first race following a collision with Sylvain Guintoli on the sighting lap and crashed out of race two. The incident with Guintoli at the Melbourne hairpin left the Frenchman with a broken tibia and fibula and Brookes with a suspended one-race ban. Race victories went to series leader Leon Camier and his Airwaves Yamaha team-mate James Ellison.
