Edwards looks for Bucks success

Midfielder Danny Edwards is hoping to use his experience of winning promotion with Stafford to help guide AFC Telford United into the Blue Square Premier.

Edwards was part of the Rangers side which reached the Conference in 2006 by beating Droylsden on penalties in the Conference North play-off final.

"I learned quite a lot," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"I was young, we went up and played against teams who pass the ball a lot. I think the Conference would suit us."

Edwards went on to play for Redditch before making the switch to the New Bucks Head and he believes they can beat Burscough on Tuesday to claim their Blue Square North play-off place.

"The way Burscough are down near the bottom, we think it's a task that should be easily done," he said.

"All we've got to do is get the win and get us into the play-offs."

Telford will be without on-loan striker Ricky Sappleton, who has mumps, but defender Lee Vaughan will be available for selection after serving a suspension.

The Bucks are currently fifth, five points ahead of sixth-placed Droylsden with two games left to play. Droylsden play Stalybridge on Tuesday night.

Telford boss Rob Smith has hinted midfielder Jamie Vermiglio may get a surprise recall for the Tamworth game at the weekend. Vermiglio has been playing with a fracture in his back during the season.

But following an injection and a period of rehabilitation he could be passed fit to resume playing despite fears he would never kick a ball again.

You can hear full match commentary of AFC Telford United against Burscough on BBC Radio Shropshire 96 FM, DAB digital radio or online at bbc.co.uk/shropshire from 1900 BST on Tuesday.
