Chelmsford City 2-0 Worcester City

Blue Square South

Worcester City manager Richard Dryden says the 2-0 defeat at Chelmsford City underlined the need for him to bring in some strong characters for next season.

Dryden felt the game was typical of so many this season where they have lacked leadership at key moments.

"I'm looking at the points we have given away and next year I am going to get some leaders in," he said.

"We want people who are going to get hold of people by the scruff of the neck and have a go."

City were bright enough in the first half, with striker Marco Adaggio looking the most likely to hit the target for them but they fell behind to Ollie Berquez's strike three minutes before half time.

We have a little bit of a go at some of our players and they throw their dummies out of the pram and that is the difference

There was no way back for the St George's Lane club when David Rainford doubled Chelmsford's lead 14 minutes into the second half.

Dryden admitted it had been a frustrating afternoon on a number of levels, but especially in the manner of the goals they had conceded.

"For the majority of the game we did ok possession-wise but they haven't had to work hard for their goals, albeit that the second one was a great strike," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"It is two goals that we have given away under our own steam.

"They [Chelmsford] have been in and out for the last three or four games, but we started really well, but I expect my two forwards to put some of our chances in the net."

Unusually for Dryden, he questioned the attitude of some of his players, pointing to the way in which their experienced Chelmsford counterparts had laid down the law to team-mates when the need had arisen.

"We haven't had any leaders out there getting hold of players and shaking them up," he said.

"You could see Rainford for them having a go at someone jumping out of a tackle and that lad didn't jump out of a tackle again.

"We have a little bit of a go at some of our players and they throw their dummies out of the pram and that is the difference."
