Redditch still await sponsor cash

Blue Square North

Redditch United have confirmed that they are still waiting to receive money from their main sponsors, Kool Sport.

The Reds have a two-year deal, worth £40,000, in place with the Thailand-based sportswear company.

Associate director Tim Delaney told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "We're still waiting for payment, very shortly we'll be at the end of the first year.

"As of yet we have had no money forthcoming and obviously, with a club of our size, we rely on sponsorship."

Delaney added that the Reds' board has made repeated attempts to contact Kool Sport and that his disappointment is compounded by the fact that other companies were interested in sponsoring the club.

"We did turn down other sponsors before this season because the Kool Sport deal was looking so lucrative," said Delaney.

"But as anyone can understand, when you get halfway through the season and you have had nothing, it's quite harmful to the club.

"You hear every day of clubs that are having financial trouble and when your main sponsor doesn't pay you anything at all, it really does harm the club," he added.

Delaney also confirmed that Redditch have yet to take legal advice, but may look to end the contract early if they still have not been paid by the end of the season.

"We can't continue for another season with no sponsorship money," he said.

"We don't want to kill this in the water as we're happy as long as everybody fulfils their their part of the bargain.

"If we give Kool Sport a date to fulfil the contract by and they fail to do so, we should be free to look for other sponsors."
