Chelmsford title hopes fade away

Chelmsford City assistant manager Glenn Pennyfather believes winning the Blue Square South title will be a tall order after Monday's draw with Basingstoke.

After taking the lead through Kevin James, the Clarets needed a second-half strike by Ricky Holmes to salvage a 2-2 draw at Melbourne Park.

The result leaves City 13 points behind AFC Wimbledon with eight games to play.

"It's a tall order but we'll never give up. If I'm honest it looks like the play-offs," Pennyfather told BBC Essex.

He added: "We're disappointed, our performance was poor, at one stage I thought we were lucky to come away with a point."

City led the division for much of the season but have won just once in their last eight matches and are now third in the table.
