Trotman has had limited games for Preston since joining from Oldham
Colchester United have signed Preston North End defender Neal Trotman on a one-month loan deal.
The 22-year-old central defender has only made three appearances for the Deepdale club since they paid £500,000 to Oldham for him 18 months ago.
He joins the U's as they look to cover for the injured Paul Reid, Chris Coyne who is on international duty and Matt Heath who is on loan at Brighton.
Trotman will be available for selection for Saturday's trip to Leicester City.
He is the U's second loan signing in the space of a couple of hours, following the confirmation that winger Ashley Vincent has joined until the end of the season from Cheltenham.
