Curry power too hot for Prescot

Steve Welsh is hoping the 5-0 win over Prescot will prove a turning point

Boston boss Steve Welsh has revealed that the secret of Wednesday night's 5-0 home win over Prescot Cables was to skip training and go for a curry.

The Unibond Premier League win came in the wake of Welsh telling his players that they were 'going for an Indian' instead of training on Monday night.

"We had a good laugh and a joke," Welsh told BBC Radio Lincolnshire. "Maybe it was needed to break the ice."

Ricky Miller, signed from Spalding two weeks ago, scored a debut hat-trick.

Jon Rowan got the other two as the curry-fuelled Pilgrims swept past their relegation rivals to end a run of more than eight hours without a goal.

I'm not saying that's what got us the goals, but it maybe takes the pressure off everyone a bit

Boston remain in the relegation zone, still three points from safety. But Welsh was pleased that changing the recipe proved a success.

"It's just something a bit different and gets everybody a bit lively," he said.

"Sometimes you can train too much and you get into a rut so we had to break it somehow.

"The boys all turned up for training on Monday expecting to train and we just said, 'Right, pack your stuff up and come with us' and we went for a bite to eat.

"Before the match it was a point of conversation when the boys walked into the dressing room.

"I'm not saying that's what got us the goals, but it maybe just takes the pressure off everyone a little bit."
