Telford United defender Simon Forsdick looks set to return to the squad for Saturday's FA Trophy tie at Kettering after recovering from his knee injury.
Forsdick, who had a clean-up pre-season operation, aggravated the injury in the win over Gainsborough in September.
The 25-year-old defender had pinned his hopes on saving his football career on a new injection he had in December and it appears to have paid off.
Manager Rob Smith now looks set to use him as a substitute for the Trophy tie.
Forsdick will train on Thursday and, if all goes well, will be in the squad for Saturday's trip to Rockingham Road (1200 GMT).
The defender could then be sent out on loan to gain match fitness with the hope that he can return to league action in February.
Forsdick first injured the ligaments in his knee against Harrogate Town at the Bucks Head in April 2008.
