Gainsborough Trinity manager Steve Charles has played down speculation linking the Blue Square North club with Rushden and Diamonds' Daryl Clare.
Trinity chairman Peter Swann had expressed interest in signing the former Boston United striker, 30.
Charles told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "I have spoken to Daryl but I'm sure a number of other managers have as well.
"We're just monitoring the situation. We're always talking with players so there's nothing unusual there really."
