Alfreton are three points off the Blue Square North play-offs

Alfreton Town have signed central midfielder Marquin Smith from Unibond League side Carlton Town.

Smith, 22, made a debut, substitute appearance as the Reds beat bottom of the table Hucknall 5-0 on Boxing Day.

Manager Nicky Law has also extended defender Kyle McFadzean's contract - keeping him at the Derbyshire club until the end of the 2009/10 season.

Alfreton, who are three points off the Blue Square North play-off places, will meet Hucknall again on New Year's Day.
