Telford cause another cup upset

Danny Carey-Bertram
Danny Carey-Bertram has hit seven goals since signing six weeks ago.

AFC Telford are through to the Northern Section semi-finals of the Setanta Shield after a third win this season over Blue Square Premier opposition.

Danny Carey-Bertram put the Blue Square North side on the way to their 3-0 win over Conference leaders Burton when he scored after just six minutes.

Andy Brown then scored from the spot on 37 minutes after a foul on Lee Moore.

And a Burton mix-up on the hour allowed Carey-Bertram to seal victory with his second goal from close range.

After beating Cambridge United in the previous round, and also winning at Northwich in the FA Cup, Telford once again showed the Blue Square Premier that they mean business.

Burton only included one player in their starting line-up from the team that played against Eastbourne on Saturday. But they were up against an in-form Telford side.

"We were awesome," Bucks boss Rob Smith told BBC Radio Shropshire. "The only fault is that we should have scored more.

"Everyone's sticking together and we're playing really well," added Smith, who has been named Blue Square North manager of the month for November.

Telford played seven games in November, winning all their three league games, scoring nine goals and conceding just one in the process.

They also beat Cambridge in the previous round of the Setanta Shield and Gainsborough Trinity in the FA Trophy - and suffered their only defeat in the FA Cup first round by League One Southend United, who they held to a 2-2 draw in the first game at the Bucks Head.
