Selby desperate for ground move

Northern Counties East Premier League side Selby Town hope that the planned move to a new ground from Flaxley Road will gather pace by next month.

A planning meeting of Selby District Council will consider planning permission for Selby in December.

Selby Town secretary Tom Arkley told BBC Radio York: "We're stagnating here, the ground is falling to pieces.

"The new surroundings, with a better-sized clubhouse which we can hire out, mean we can move forward as a club."

The club have accumulated a large number of junior teams plus a ladies section as the town of Selby has outgrown the club's facilities.

We're an ambitious club and [promotion is] what we're aiming for

Arkley said: "There are a lot of new people to the area that don't even know we exist and we've got to raise the profile of the club.

"At the moment we can't offer them much down here [at Flaxley Road] but at the new place we can offer them better facilities."

Despite a surprise 5-1 defeat at Long Eaton, the club are in mid-table with games in hand on all the teams above them, so promotion is still well within range.

"We're an ambitious club and that's what we're aiming for," Arkley added.
