Hodgson struck 12 fours in his County Championship debut in September

Yorkshire have bolstered their squad by signing former Surrey all-rounder Lee Hodgson on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old from Middlesbrough was one of the MCC's Young Cricketers in 2006 and hit 63 on his Championship debut in the last match of the season.

Hodgson said: "I am very pleased to have signed for Yorkshire. It is my home county and it was my dream as a young lad to play for this club.

"I want to move down as soon as I can as I cannot wait to get started."

Yorkshire director of professional cricket Martyn Moxon said: "Lee is someone who impressed us when he played for Surrey's second team at York last year.

"He is an all-rounder who bowls at a decent pace and has the ability to score runs.

"He became available at the end of the season and we regard him as a very good prospect and an investment for the future."

Hodgson played much of his early cricket for Saltburn Cricket Club in the North Yorkshire and South Durham League.

He was promoted from the Surrey 2nd XI with some useful performances, which included 4-44 and 85 with the bat against Yorkshire seconds at York in August.
