Former Kiwi pro Adams removed three of the top five Surrey batsmen |
Lee Hodgson recorded a half century on his Championship debut for Surrey but the bottom side struggled to 253-8 on day one against Notts at The Oval. The 22-year-old struck 13 fours in his 63 before he was the last wicket of the day to fall, edging to second slip. Surrey chose to bat first but Chris Murtagh lasted just four balls before driving Darren Pattinson to slip. Mark Ramprakash walked in the seventh over after making only four and Andre Adams picked up an economical 3-35. Scott Newman made an assured 61 with some delightful shots and went past 1,000 runs for the season when he struck three successive boundaries off the unfortunate Charlie Shreck. He shared 65 with Jon Batty, who fell to Adams shortly before lunch, Chris Read with his 50th dismissal of the campaign. Usman Afzaal and Matthew Spriegel scoring just 21 runs from the same amount of overs in a quiet afternoon session. Afzaal broke free to hit some stylish strokes but Adams collected his third wicket when the left-hander wafted to slip.
