Redditch United picked up their third Blue Square North win of the season when they beat Blyth Spartans 2-0 at Valley Stadium.
Reds manager Gary Whild told BBC Hereford & Worcester it had been a day for grinding out the victory.
"Like a lot of Conference North games there wasn't a lot in it in the first half," he said.
"But the good thing was that we kept doing what we set out to do and in the end it paid rewards," he added.
For a long period it did not look as though there would be any game at all as Blyth's team coach broke down on the motorway.
The kick-off was put back an hour and 20 minutes and this seemed to have more of an effect on Redditch, who were slow out of the blocks.
Liam Murray settled the Reds' nerves when he scored shortly after the interval and Sam Foley wrapped up the win with a second goal late on.
Gary Whild admitted the delayed start to the game had not helped, but he was pleased by how they reacted after the interval.
"Fair play to the lads, they showed a bit of character when we had to up the tempo," he said. "We spoke about that at half-time and they did that in the second half."
This win saw Redditch climb above Blyth Spartans to 15th in the Blue Square North table.
They will have a chance for further progression on Monday evening when head to Hinckley United (1945 BST).
