Redditch United manager Gary Whild said there were a few home truths told in the dressing room following the 2-0 home defeat by Southport on Saturday.
Whild told BBC Hereford and Worcester he felt his side could easily have taken at least a point from the game.
"We're here to win games of football and I'm disappointed today as we could have got something.
"But you can't keep saying that so I've just had a chat with the players to remind them of their responsibilities."
The Reds came into the game against the Blue Square North leaders off the back of a 4-1 loss at Gainsborough Trinity and Whild had been looking for a positive response.
He admitted to being very disappointed with the overall level of performance.
"I thought that we started OK but as soon as their first goal went in, for me there was only one team that was going to win that game.
He did something last season that he regrets but he's served his punishment, although he hasn't quite finished his ban yet so who knows what will happen after that?

"That is not how we set out our stall at Redditch to think 'We have conceded a goal so it's going to be an uphill struggle'.
"It was a stupid goal to give away and we have got to defend better both individually and as a team."
There was something of a surprise for the Reds' fans pre-match when former player-coach Matt Clarke was seen assisting with the warm-up session.
Clarke left Valley Stadium in the summer following his part in a major brawl at the end of a game last season - against Southport.
Whild refused to be drawn on whether there might be the chance of a return to Redditch for the ex-Hereford United and Kidderminster Harriers full-back.
"Matt's been at the club a long time and is a friend of mine," said Whild.
