Charlton returns to Redditch Utd

Footballers in action

Redditch United have re-signed left back Asa Charlton from Blue Square North rivals AFC Telford United.

Reds boss Gary Whild told BBC Hereford and Worcester he is delighted the 30-year-old will line up alongside another experienced defender in Matt Clarke.

"They are not coming here for the fantastic facilities - it's often backs to the wall," said Whild.

"They thrive in those situations and that type of attitude can only bode well for the football club," he added.

Charlton is expected to go straight into the Reds' squad for Saturday's home match against Blyth Spartans.

The Reds are one place below Blyth in the Blue Square North table and Whild says this represents a good chance for them to climb towards mid-table.

"It's important that we win the majority of our home games whoever we are playing against," he said.

"We look at Blyth coming this weekend and three points is what we expect - if we don't get that then I think we will be disappointed," he added.

BBC Hereford and Worcester will have regular reports on the Reds' progress in the home game against Blyth as part of Sport on Saturday which will be on air and online from 1400 BST.
