Savage has close ties with City assistant manager Mike Ford.
Former Irish international midfielder Dave Savage has left his player-coach position at Brackley to join Southern League rivals Oxford City.
The 34-year-old told BBC Oxford that he hopes his experience will benefit the younger players in the City side.
"I have been around a bit and played a bit," he said. "I can remember what it is like being 18 or 19.
"If there is anything I can help or guide them with then I will do so. I will also try my best on the pitch."
Dublin-born Savage won his five Republic of Ireland caps during his Millwall days more than a decade ago.
After leaving Millwall for Northampton in October 1998, he has since gone on to play a couple of seasons each for Oxford United, Bristol Rovers and Rushden & Diamonds.
He then joined Southern League Premier Division outfit Brackley last summer.
Savage will concentrate fully on being player at Court Place Farm and will not be involved in coaching the team.
