Ellender rejects Pilgrims offer

Boston United defender Paul Ellender has rejected the offer of a new contract from the club, claiming it would mean too big a wage cut.

"I knew I'd need to take a pay cut and was prepared to do that," he told BBC Radio Lincolnshire. "But not the amount they want me to, so I turned it down."

Ellender says he would like to remain with the Pilgrims, but is waiting to see if they make him an improved offer.

Ellender, 33, has spent seven seasons at York Street, making 275 appearances.

The Scunthorpe-born stopper, who started his career at Gainsborough Trinity and has also played for Altrincham, Scarborough and Chester, is now in the hands of Boston manager Tommy Taylor.

"I've got a family and it was a big drop," said the Boston skipper. "But Tommy knew that, he understood and he said 'Leave it with me'.

"I'll just wait and see when he gets back to me."
