Gravesend 2-1 Stevenage

Stevenage's mini-revival ended at fellow strugglers Gravesend.

Gravesend were desperately hanging onto a one-goal lead under incessant Stevenage pressure when Jason Goodliffe's back-pass went into his own net to increase the hosts` advantage.

Stevenage had won three of their previous four games and drawn the other, and they started brightly with Gravesend spending much of the first 20 minutes on the back foot.

But on a rare raid they took the lead with a superb goal from Mark Bentley, who received the ball from Che Stadhart and hammered it home from 30 yards.

Stevenage could have levelled through Charlie MacDonald but Paul Wilkerson produced a fantastic save, and Gravesend squandered two good chances when Bentley shot wide and Liam Hatch had a fierce shot blocked by Jamie Campbell.

The visitors piled on the pressure after the interval and twice Wilkerson produced fine saves to deny MacDonald, while Justin Richards shot just the wrong side of the post and then blazed the ball over the crossbar.

Goodliffe's own goal five minutes from time made the points safe and although Simon Wormull grabbed a late consolation for Stevenage with two minutes left, it was too late.

Gravesend: Wilkerson, Giles, Pennock, Wilkins, Lee, Bentley, Owen, White, Skinner, Stadhart, Hatch. Subs: Turner, Budge, Burton, Kwashi, Strouts.

Stevenage: Westhead, Travis, Goodliffe, Trott, Fraser, Wormull, McMahon, Jamie Campbell, Blackwood, Richards, Charlie MacDonald. Subs: Wilson, Opara, Mustoe, Gary MacDonald, Gray.

Referee: T Kettle (Maidenhead).
