Ahly's mission impossible
Al Ahly are not the force they were last year
Defending African club champions Al Ahly of Egypt are on the verge of being knocked out of this years Champions League after losing their two opening games.

Their 2-1 defeat on Sunday against Raja Casablanca, which follows their 2-1 defeat to Jeanne d'Arc, makes it difficult for them to make the semi-finals, and has drawn withering criticism.

There is a uproar now among Ahly fans who are unhappy with the club's decision to release their former Portuguese coach, Manuel Jose.

Ahly fans want Jose back
He led them to the African title - their first for 14 years - and succeeded in developing a promising team of youth players.

The present coach, Jo Bonfrere, has been unable to follow his lead and has brought back older players.

Players accused

Taher Abu Zied, who won the 1986 Nations Cup with Egypt and is now an Ahly executive is angry.

"We are paying for releasing Jose. He built us a great team last year and we ruined all he did.

"We lost our two opening games because of our faults. Our mission seems impossible especially since we have not played Mazembe yet, who are far better than Raja and Jeanne d'Arc".

Dutchman Bonfrere is now under immense pressure and directed his anger towards the players.

"It was their fault. They looked like amateurs and were not concentrating enough. I am ashamed of the way they approached the game".

Another loss and his short career at Ahly will surely be over.
