Santos set sights on Chiefs' crown
Bradley August
Bradley August is ineligible for the game
With the South African Premier League trophy now safely in their cabinet, Santos are hoping to add the African Cup Winners Cup to their growing collection of silverware.

To do that they first have to overcome top Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko, whom they meet in a second-round second-leg encounter in Kumasi on Sunday.

The teams go into Sunday's encounter level at 3-3 following their highly entertaining encounter in Cape Town two weeks ago.

With the distraction of their league title chase now gone, Santos coach Gordon Igesund is focusing his attention on keeping the Mandela Cup, which was won by Kaizer Chiefs last season, in South Africa.

However, Igesund is aware of the magnitude of the task facing his side in front of an expected 60,000 fans in Kumasi.

"Kotoko are a side with a rich pedigree in African football," he said.

"It will be a tough assignment but we matched them in all departments in the first leg.

Injury doubts

"We are in with an even chance of getting the result we need," he added.

Igesund, who has now won the South African league title with three different clubs in the space of six seasons, is also looking towards the competition as preparation for next season's Champions League campaign.

"The further we go in the Mandela Cup the more experience of playing under different conditions in Africa my boys will get," he said.

"This can only benefit us for next season's Champions League."

Santos have a few injury worries ahead of Sunday's clash.

Namibian midfielder Ricardo Mannetti and his Mauritian teammate Sebastien Bax are both doubtful, while Bafana Bafana striker Bradley August is ineligible because he was not registered in time for the competition.
