AS Vita Club of DR Congo beat Entente Setif 2-1 to prevent the Algerians from securing a Confederation Cup semi-final spot with one game to go.
Inasawa Mfumu opened the scoring for the Congolese after just three minutes.
Diba Ilunga extended the lead for the home side just before half-time.
It wasn't until five minutes before the final whistle that Entente Setif struck back through Abdelmalik Ziaya.
In the other Group A match-up, Egyptian side Enppi kept their continental ambitions alive with a 4-0 win over Santos FC of Angola.
It was Enppi's second successive win of the campaign, following a 3-1 victory of AS Vita Club of DR Congo a fortnight ago.
Striker Ahmed Abdel Raof scored a first-half brace.
Nader Alshri increased the tally two minutes from time before Ivorian-import Vincent De Foneye sealed victory with a superb effort in stoppage time.
Entente Setif remain top of Group A with nine points and will have to wait until next week to see if they can make it through.
They face Egyptian side Enppi at home.
AS Vita Club, second in the group with nine points, will also fancy their chances.
They travel to Angola to take on Santos FC.
Santos and Enppi have six points in third and fourth in Group A.
Stade Malien maintained their unbeaten run to keep hold of the top position in Group B of the Confederation Cup.
The Mali club put in another fine performance to hold Angola's Primeiro Agosto to a 0-0 draw in Luanda.
Nigeria's Bayelsa United added to Nigeria's footballing fortunes with a 2-0 victory over Haras El Hadood of Egypt.
Both goals came from the penalty spot courtesy of Markson Ojobo in the space of four minutes late in the first half.
That win lifted Bayelsa from the bottom of group to third in a tight group.
The group's two semi-finalists will be decided in the last round of matches in a week's time when Stade Malien host Bayelsa and Primeiro Agosto travel to Haras El Hadood.
