Benin in final round of qualifiers

Benin secured their place in the last round of the qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup with a 3-2 win over Angola in Cotonou.

Saudi Arabia-based striker Razak Omotoyossi scored twice to hand the Squirrels a place with one match to spare in Group Three.

The small west African country become only the third team to make mathematically sure of progress to next year's final phase of the qualifiers, following in the wake of traditional superpowers Nigeria and Cameroon.

The defeat leaves 2006 World Cup finalists Angola facing the stark reality of early elimination.

Abdou Adenon scored in only the second minute to hand Benin a perfect start to the match but Angola equalised soon after from the boot of striker Flavio.

Omotoyossi scored twice in the second half before Angola centre back Loco grabbed a consolation goal 12 minutes from the end.

Benin have an unassailable five-point lead at the head of the group while Angola and Uganda are tied for second place on seven points each.

Uganda are masters of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory but the Cranes conceded two late goals to crash 3-1 at previously pointless Niger.

The defeat in Niamey probably blow any hope of Uganda being among the final 20 contenders.

Alassane Issoufou was the scourge of the Cranes cancelling a David Obua goal before putting his team ahead five minutes from full-time to give Scottish coach Bobby Williamson a painful debut.
