Kenya captain Musa Otieno is in Mulee's provisional squad |
Kenya coach Jacob Mulee named a 29-man training squad on Monday for a possible World Cup qualifier against Malawi on 5 September.
The move came after football's world governing body Fifa indicated it may lift its ban on the Kenya Football Federation (KFF) next month.
The KFF was suspended in June because of government interference in its administration, preventing Kenya's national team and club sides from taking part in any international tournament.
As a result, the Harambee Stars have missed the first three of their designated qualifiers in the 2006 World Cup and Cup of Nations.
Qualifying games against Guinea and Morocco in June, as well as one against reigning African champions Tunisia earlier this month, were postponed as a result of the Fifa suspension.
Yet following last week's meeting, which involved two days of talks between Fifa officials and Kenyan sports minister Ochilo Ayacko, it is anticipated that Kenya will be re-admitted into the international fold.
At Fifa house in Zurich, officials from both the world governing body and the Kenyan government agreed a framework that can allow Fifa's emergency committee to provisionally lift the KFF's suspension at a meeting on 6 August.
For this to happen, the Kenyan government must give its full support to the KFF's Normalisation Committee headed by athletics legend Kip Keino.
