Frenchman Henri Stambouli has been named as the new coach of Tunisia's Club Africain.
Stambouli signed a two-year contract with the Tunis-based side on Wednesday.
The 42-year-old takes over after the Tunisia Football Federation refused to release national assistant team coach Nabil Maaloul for the post.
The French coach was previously in charge of the Malian national team but stood down in March after failing to agree a contract extension with the West Africans' Football Federation.
During his five months in charge of the Eagles, Stambouli led the team to the semi-finals of the 2004 Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
He also guided Mali into the group stages of 2006 World Cup and Nations Cup qualifying.
Club Africain fans will hope that Stambouli can lead their team back to former glories.
The Tunisian side won the African Cup in 1991, when beating Congolese side Nakivubo Villa SC 6-2 on aggregate.
After leaving his Mali post, Stambouli was linked with national team posts with Algeria, Egypt as well as the Club Africain role he now occupies.
The Frenchman replaces Youssef Zouaoui, whose tenure in charge of Club Africain finished at the end of last season.
Club Africain, who last won the Tunisian league in 1996, came third in the 2003/2004 season.
