Okocha failed to show up in Angola |
Nigeria slumped to a surprise 1-0 defeat against Angola on Sunday which left coach Christian Chukwu lamenting the absence of captain Jay-Jay Okocha. A goal from Akwa on 85 minutes put hosts Angola top of Group Four with four points from two games.
Okocha's agent said on Thursday that the player had not been able to get a flight to Luanda and so would miss the match.
But the Nigerian FA said they had not heard from him and expected him to turn up.
"I don't know why Okocha is not here. He was supposed to be here and when we get home we will find out why," Chukwu said after the match.
"I won't have any idea until I get home."
As well as Okocha, Nigeria were also without a host of top players, including injured Inter Milan striker Obafemi Martins and defender Ifeanyi Udeze.
"You can't choose somebody that has an injury. Martins and Ogbeche have injuries. These are my top attackers and they're not here today," Chukwu said.
In Harare, Zimbabwe and Algeria shared the spoils after a thrilling 1-1 draw at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Desert Foxes stunned the home crowd into silence when they seized the lead against the run of play after 21 minutes. Abdelmalek Cherrad received a defence-splitting pass from Hacine Achiou and slotted the ball past Tapuwa Kapini, deputising for injured regular goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro.
The goal stung the home side into action and sustained pressure by the Warriors finally paid off soon after the break when Slimane Raho fired past his own goalkeeper.
In Kigali, Rwandacontinued their march up the world rankings with a 3-1 win over Gabon. Two of their goals came from Belgium-based striker Said Abed Makasi.
Rwanda scored in the first five minutes but Gabon, coached by Brazil's 1970 World Cup player Jairzinho, were level soon after through Theodore Nzue Nguema.
Rwanda led 2-1 at half-time when Jimmy Mulisa added a second and Makasi made sure with a third goal in the 63rd minute.
Rwanda, who were surprise qualifiers for the African Nations Cup finals in Tunisia earlier this year, lost 2-0 to group four favourites Nigeria in their first match earlier this month.
