Kaba Diawara (right) scored twice on his debut for Guinea |
Guinea caused a shock when they beat the reigning African Champions Tunisia 2-1 in Conakry on Sunday. Former Arsenal striker Kaba Diawara scored both goals to give himself a dream debut for Guinea.
Diawara, who played for France at junior levels, switched his allegiance to Guinea after a change to Fifa regulations last year.
His impact was immediate, scoring after just 10 minutes after being set up by Montpellier striker Fode Mansare.
Diawara grabbed his second just after half-time before Najeh Brahem reduced the deficit for Tunisia in the 55th minute.
"We managed to block out Tunisia in the midfield and never let them develop their game," said coach Patrice Neveu, who was also making his debut in charge of Guinea.
Diphetogo 'Dipsy' Selolwane opened the scoring for Botswana |
Botswana bounced back from a disappointing start to their 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win over Malawi in Gaberone on Saturday.
The Zebras' first goal came after just five minutes from US-based star Diphetogo 'Dipsy' Selolwane.
Their lead was then doubled in the 24th minute by Nelson Gabolwelwe.
Malawi will be disappointed that they could not find the sort of form that helped them hold the African Cup of Nations finalists Morocco to a 1-1 draw two weeks ago.
