Enyimba await Caf verdict
Ndidi Anumnu in action for Enyimba

The Confederation of African Football's (Caf) Inter-club committee will meet on Saturday to discuss allegations that Nigeria's Enyimba used an ineligible player when they won the Champions League last December.

Enyimba won the title 2-1 on aggregate, after a 2-0 win at home in Nigeria and then lost 1-0 in the second leg in Egypt.

The committee will examine a protest from Egyptian club Ismaili, who claim that Ahmed 'Yaro Yaro' Garba, who appeared as a substitute for Enyimba in the second leg of the final, should not have played.

The crux of Ismaili's protest is their claim that Yaro Yaro played concurrently for Kano Pillars in the Nigerian domestic league while representing Enyimba in the Champions League.

Ismaili officials have also complained about the eligibility of another Enyimba player, Ndidi Anumnu, who scored in the first leg of the final.

The Egyptians managed to lodge their protest to Caf before the confederation's three-month deadline on such matters expired.

If you want to take a championship, it is very unfair to get players from another team to play for your side

"Anumnu plays for, and is the captain of, Iwuayanwu Nationale," said Ismaili vice-president Ibrahim Osman.

The Egyptian club says it not only has a document stamped by Nigeria Football Association officials but also video tapes that back up its evidence on Yaro Yaro.

Osman explained that he expects to receive similar documentation on Anumnu's alleged inability.

Section 1 (c) of article 25 of Caf's Regulations of Inter-Clubs competitions states that for a player to be qualified to play in Caf Clubs competitions, he must 'play regularly in the national championship of the country for the club engaged in the competition of Caf'.

Ismaili officials say they should be awarded the Champions League trophy, as they argued that Yaro Yaro never played for Enyimba in Nigeria's domestic league.

Furthermore, the Egyptians say their documentary evidence shows that the midfielder played for Kano Pillars on 16 occasions.

"It is very unfair that if you want to take a championship, you take players from another team and let them play for your side," Osman said.
