Ndidi Anumnu scored Enyimba's all-important second goal in the final |
Egyptian side Ismaili have intensified their campaign to get Enyimba stripped of the 2003 African Champions League.
The Nigerian champions won December's final 2-1 on aggregate, but have faced allegations that midfielder Ahmed 'Yaro Yaro' Garba was ineligible to play in the contest.
The Egyptians have officially protested to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) that Yaro Yaro was actually registered with another Nigerian club, Kano Pillars.
Ismaili officials have now told the BBC that they have also complained about the eligibility of another Enyimba player, Ndidi Anumnu, who scored in the first leg of the final.
And the Egyptians managed to lodge their protest to Caf before the confederation's three-month deadline on such matters expired.
"Anumnu plays for, and is the captain of, Iwuayanwu Nationale," said Ismaili vice-president Ibrahim Osman.
The Egyptian club says it not only has a document stamped by Nigeria Football Association officials but also video tapes that back up its evidence on Yaro Yaro.
And Osman explained that he expects to receive similar documentation on Anumnu's alleged inability.
"I am receiving in a day or two a video tape of (Anumnu playing for Nationale) to prove that Enyimba fielded not only one but two ineligible players," he said.
"But I think the solid case is the Ahmed Garba case as it is very clear."
The nub of the Ismaili protest centres on the fact that Yaro Yaro played for Kano Pillars in the Nigerian domestic league yet represented Enyimba in the Champions League.
Section 1 (c) of article 25 of Caf's Regulations of Inter-Clubs competitions states that for a player to be qualified to play in Caf Clubs competitions, he must 'play regularly in the national championship of the country for the club engaged in the competition of Caf'.
Ismaili officials say that they should be awarded the Champions League trophy since they claim Yaro Yaro never played for Enyimba in Nigeria's domestic league.
Furthermore, they say their documentary evidence shows that the midfielder played for Kano Pillars on 16 occasions instead.
"It is very unfair that if you want to take a championship, you take players from another team and let them play for your side," Osman said.
"We regret all these things."
