Ismaili claim Enyimba fraud
Enyimba players celebrate
Enyimba won't be celebrating if Caf find in favour of Ismaili
Egyptian club Ismaili are protesting against Enyimba of Nigeria's 2-1 aggregate victory in the 2003 African Champions League final.

The Egyptians claim that Ahmed 'Yaro Yaro' Garba was ineligible to play for Enyimba in the final because he was also registered at another Nigerian club, Kano Pillars.

"According to article 23 from the regulations for Caf clubs competitions, the governing body of African football is obliged to crown us as the champions of this competition," Ibrahim Osman, vice-president of Ismaili, told BBC Sport exclusively.

"These are the regulations and we are just asking Caf to apply them," he said.

Article 23 of Caf's regulations states that if 'fraud' has been committed during the final "by the club which has been awarded the trophy, the club shall be asked to return the trophy which will be awarded to the runner-up."

The regulation also goes on to state "the guilty team shall be suspended for three years from all Caf competitions."

Enyimba's chairman Felix Agwu has told BBC Sport that he is aware of Ismaili's claims but denies that Yaro Yaro was ineligible.

"We received a letter from Caf last week asking us to clarify the facts surrounding the player," he said.

"As far as I am concerned, there is no basis for the trophy to be taken from us as Yaro Yaro was eligible to play for us," Agwu concluded.

Enyimba have until 15 March to reply to the letter sent to them by Caf.

Ismaili officials claim that the player featured in at least 15 matches for Kano Pillars in the Nigerian league, while also playing for Enyimba in the Champions League during the same period.

The Egyptians also say that they have official records and documents from the Nigeria Football Association that confirm their claims.

Enyimba were the first Nigerian club to win the trophy and if Caf finds in favour of the Egyptian club, it would be the first time in the history of African football that Caf have stripped a winning team of their title.
