Ikhana: "Words cannot explain this feeling." |
Football fans across Nigeria are continuing to revel in the success of Enyimba, after the Aba-based side became the first Nigerian club to reach the Champions League final. Michael Ochei scored in the last minute to give Enyimba a 2-1 win over USM Algier in the second-leg semi-final on Saturday.

The win propels them to the best club side to come out of Nigeria, given they are the first to make it this far in the continent's most prestigious club competition. An ecstatic coach Kadiri Ikhana could not express how good it felt to reach this stage.
''Words cannot describe the feeling and the atmosphere in the dressing room after the game.......it was just too great'' he told the BBC Sport website.
And Ikhana said his side's success could not be underestimated.
''It is a happy moment for Nigerian football," he said.
"Even as I am talking to you, if I go out on the streets it is as though the match just ended a few minutes ago.
"Children, men and women both young and old are celebrating this victory.''
With the recent coaching saga befalling the national team there are also hopes in Nigeria that Enyimba's success can filter through to the Super Eagles.
But Ikhana said that while their success was great for Nigerian football it may take some time for its impact to be felt at the higher levels of the sport.
''Nigeria has a lot of players all over the world and although they will be happy with the news of our qualification, they will be concentrating on their leagues and the Nations Cup finals but it is good for the game all the same.''
So Enyimba must now look ahead to the final, the first leg of which takes place on the weekend of 28-30 November.
The Nigerians will not know their opposition until after this weekend, when Ismaili of Egypt and Esperance of Tunisia, play their second leg semi-final in Tunis.
Coach Ikhana is not concerned who his side draw.
''At this stage of the competition it does not matter who we meet, he added.
"We have played Ismali twice and we know them well. As for Esperance we have also watched alot of their matches on video so we will have to wait and see who qualifies for the final.
''At this stage it's a matter of taking your chances when they come.''
Ikhana admitted that he did have some nervous moments though as his side conceded a goal to USM in the opening minutes of their second leg match.
"The goal after only four minutes almost de-stabilised my boys," he said.
"I shouted from the touchline to tell them to carry on and fight for the equaliser, which they did."
One thing is for sure, if Enyimba can continue to battle through and win this competition, the celebrations in Nigeria are likely to be unprecedented!
