Enyimba into the final

Enyimba of Nigeria left it late but they have won a place in this year's African Champions League final, after they beat USMA of Algeria 2-1.

The result in Aba, Nigeria, in front of a capacity crowd, means Enyimba win the tie 3-2 on aggregate after the sides drew 1-1 in Algeria last weekend.

Enyimba's bid to become the first ever Nigerian side to make it to the Champions League final got off to a terrible start as they conceded a goal after just 3 minutes, USMA's Dziri Billel made the most of a goal mouth scramble to give the Algerian side the lead.

Enyimba then piled on the pressure in the first half and earned themselves several corners and eventually a free kick on the edge of the area that was put wide by Obinna Nwaneri.

The pressure did eventually pay off as the home side forced an own goal to level the scores on the stroke of half-time, Zeghdoud Mounir was the unlucky player as he turned a shot from Nwaneri past his own 'keeper.

Last gasp

After the break the Nigerian side were once again dominant with captain Kingsley Elvis failing to make the most of several free kicks on the edge of the area.

Ndidi Anumnu, Ogbonnaya Okemiri, Emeka Nwanna were all guilty of wasting good opportunities to give Enyimba the lead.

The pressure also caused the Algerian side to lose their cool resulting in 4 yellow cards for Nazef Amar Lahcen, Achiou Hocine, Aribi Salim and goalkeeper Mezair Mohamed Hichem.

The home side got their reward in the 89th minute as Michael Orchei became the hero of Nigeria as he scored the crucial winning goal from close range following another goal mouth scramble.

Enyimba can now sit back and see if Esperance of Tunisia can overturn a 3-1 deficit when they host Ismaili of Egypt in the second leg of the other semi-final on 15 November.
