Cameroon

Cameroon's Canon Yaounde
Canon Yaounde are tied at the top of the Cameroon league
Coton sport Garoua and titleholders Canon Yaounde are tied at the top with five games remaining.

Both sides registered recent wins - Coton defeating Unisport Bafang 3-1, while Canon edged out Stade Bandjoun 1-0.

Meanwhile, Tonnerra Yaounde, one of the country's most popular sides, are in danger of relegation after losing 3-1 to Caiman Douala.

Gabon

Former Cameroon ace defender Emmanuel Kunde has led Union Sportive de Bitam to the double. Bitam defeated Mbila Nzambi 5-4 on penalties on September 20 to lift the FA Cup and on the final day of the season, whipped Jeunesse Sportive Libreville 10-0.

The goal harvest gave Bitam the league title because they overtook their closest rivals FC 105 on goal difference. FC 105's 6-1 triumph over Tout-Puissant Akouembe was not enough to secure the championship despite finishing level on 49 points with Bitam.

This is the first time a Cameroonian coach has won the double in a foreign league. Kunde was captain of the Cameroon national side for over a decade in the 1980's and 1990's, winning African titles and making World Cup appearances.

Ghana
Ghana's Hearts of Oak
Hearts of Oak still trail bitter rivals Kotoko by three points

The race between Asante Kotoko and arch-rivals Hearts of Oak continues to heat up after both sides registered victories at the weekend.

Kotoko maintained their three-point lead over Hearts after beating Mine Stars 2-0 while Hearts snatched a last-gasp winner to dismiss city rivals Accra Great Olympics 1-0.

There were also wins for Goldfields, Okwawu United, Heart of Lions and King Faisal.

Third-placed Faisal thumped Real Tamale United 4-1.

Morocco

There was a shock defeat for the league holders Hassania Agadir when they were beaten 1-0 by newly-promoted Mouloudia d'Oujda.

Oujda's first win of the new season came after three games and moves them to joint eighth with Hassania.

Meanwhile, FAR joined Olympic Khourigba at the top of the table after struggling to beat AS Sale, another newly-promoted side, 2-1.

Sale had the better chances in the game but the defeat leaves them still searching for their first win.

After being held to a goalless draw by KAC Kenitra, Khourigba failed to extend their lead and are now level with FAR on seven points.

Renaissance Settat beat Chabab Mohammedia 1-0 to move into third place while below them, four teams - Raja, Wydad, Moghreb Fes and CODM Meknes - are all tied on five points.

Of those four, only Meknes won at the weekend and they beat Ittihad Khemisset 2-1.

Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast's Asec Abidjan
Asec beat Satellite 2-1

League leaders Africa Sports National drew 0-0 with Stella Club d'Adjame, a game where Africa captain Lacina Diomande was taken to hospital following an aerial collision with an opponent.

Asec Abidjan have moved to within a point of arch-rivals Africa Sports after a 2-1 victory over Satellite. In a balanced encounter, Asec came from behind to equalize late in the first-half and then scored the winner three minutes after the break. The defeat leaves Satellite firmly rooted to the bottom with just one point.

The match between Stade d'Abidjan and Sabe Bouna finished goalless.

South Africa

Kaizer Chiefs maintained their top spot when they beat Clemens Westerhof's beleaguered Hellenic side 1-0 in Cape Town on Sunday.

Shoes Moshoeu, who continued his superb form for Chiefs, scored his fifth goal in six matches when he netted from the penalty spot in the 12th minute. The defeat leaves Hellenic rooted to the foot of the table with one point from six matches.

Wits University moved into second place as they continued their remarkable record of not having conceded a goal in their first six games when they beat Ajax Cape Town 1-0. Ivan Winstanley scored the winner in the 37th minute.

Orlando Pirates' mediocre start continued when they came from behind to secure a 1-1 home draw against newly-promoted Silver Stars.

Stars took the lead in the 6th minute when Jabulani Nkosi scored but Pirates equalised through a hotly-disputed penalty netted by James Mothibi in the closing stages of the game.

Zambian international Rotson Kilambe scored his second goal in as many games as Sundowns beat Manning Rangers 1-0 in Pretoria to earn their first win of the season.

Meanwhile, Dynamos did well to share six goals with Moroka Swallows in Johannesburg.

Tunisia

Etoile Sportive Beni Khalled have won their first game, beating Stade Tunisien 1-0. It was the first win for the newly-promoted side this season just a week after firing their coach Khalled Ben Sassi.

Esperance, who drew 0-0 with Club Africain on Sunday, are currently in the lead with a point over US Monastir. But Monastir can go top again if they win their game in Sousse against Etoile Sahel on 29 October.

Club Sfaxien also have a game in hand, against CO Transports, which will be played on 5 October.
