Champions USM Alger are six points behind the leaders but have two games in hand as a result of their involvement in the Champions League.

South Africa

Pirates have had a poor start

Orlando Pirates coach Roy Baretto was attacked by irate fans after their 0-0 draw with Black Leopards on Saturday.

The Zimbabwean, who guided Pirates to the league title in May, was pelted with bottles and missiles. Supporters of the team have been critical of their poor start to the season.

Sundowns' Argentinian coach Oscar Fullone is also under pressure, after his side slumped to their second successive defeat on Sunday, losing 3-1 to Santos in Cape Town. He has threatened to quit if his players do not improve.

Manning Rangers, coached by former national captain Steve Khompela, moved to the top of the table with a 2-1 win over Hellenic, while Jomo Cosmos also retained their perfect record when they beat Supersport United 1-0 on Saturday.

Egypt

Emad Ayoub, Bechir Al Tabei and Hazem Imam got Zamalek's goals in their 3-1 victory over Quanah on Friday. Arch-rivals Al Ahly and Ismailia did not play because of their participation in the African Cup Winners Cup and Champions League.

Ghana

Hearts of Oak are level with Kotoko

Hearts of Oak have joined Asante Kotoko at the top of the premier league standings. Lawrence Adjei's late goal gave them a 1-0 win over Hearts of Lion in Accra on Sunday.

The joint leaders have 44 points each, but Kotoko, involved in the African Cup Winners' Cup, have a game in hand. Third-placed Berekum Arsenals slipped nine points behind the leaders after a 1-0 defeat at Bofoakwa Tano on Saturday.

Zambia

Champions Zanaco remain on top of the standings, despite their goalless draw to third-placed Kabwe Warriors on Saturday. Nchanga Rangers fell off the pace with a 3-1 loss to Nkwazi in Lusaka, while Konkola Blades beat Prison Leopards 3-1. It was Konkola's first win since May.

Second-placed Power Dynamos did not play as a result of their African Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final tie against Wydad Casablanca.

Zimbabwe

Highlanders lost their second game in succession

The match between leaders AmaZulu and Motor Action ended on a sour note, as officials left the pitch under police protection.

The disputed equaliser in the 2-2 draw also led to a four-minute stoppage, with AmaZulu striker James Phiri being sent off for arguing with the referee.
