Guernsey Sunday League may fold - Ron Hamon

Football in the back of the net

Guernsey's Sunday Football League is in danger of folding if new members do not come forward, according to its president Ron Hamon.

The league has been run in the island since 1966 and, after some teams disbanded, there are currently seven sides competing.

Hamon told BBC Guernsey: "It would be a shame if it stopped.

"There's no youngsters coming through to run teams and no youngsters coming through to go on the executive."

The league split from the Guernsey Football Association in 2007, after the introduction of the one player, one club rule, and has since seen a decline in the numbers of those playing.

Guernsey FA chairman Mark Le Tissier added: "The Guernsey Football Association currently has no involvement or connection with the Sunday Soccer League.

"But we are always prepared to speak with the 'social leagues' about the development of football in the island."
