Harrogate Veterans Thailand trip still on

Harrogate Veterans will travel to Thailand to defend their Seniors World Cup title despite the recent violent protests in Bangkok.

Team manager Paul Bell told BBC Radio York: "We've been monitoring the situation very closely.

"Although it looked bad on television, and that's not dismissing how serious and tragic it was, the trouble was contained to a very small area."

Harrogate Veterans will represent England in the tournament.

Bell added: "We're only due to go into Bangkok for two days for one of our warm-up games as part of our preparation.

"Then we fly down to Phuket in the south west, which is as far away from Bangkok as it could be.

"The latest first-hand reports are that things are quietening down significantly now."

The team will fly out to Thailand on Wednesday, 26 May.
