Linnets pile pressure on leaders

Promotion-chasing King's Lynn stayed in the Southern League Premier Division title hunt with a 4-0 thumping of already relegated Cheshunt.

Matt Nolan got the opener after only eight minutes, rounding keeper Bobby Smith and slotting home after receiving the perfect pass from Ben Sedgemore.

The Linnets then turned the screw with second-half goals from John Turner, a second for Nolan and Steve Melton.

The result keeps Lynn third in the league, just two points off the top.

Leaders Halesowen Town and second-placed Team Bath both won so the league table stays as before, but the Linnets do boast easily the most impressive goal difference of the three top teams.

With only five games remaining, the Linnets need to keep up their winning streak if they are to make automatic promotion - and they face a crucial test next Saturday when Team Bath visit The Walks.

"We're just taking it nice and easy," King's Lynn manager Keith Webb told BBC Radio Norfolk. "It's a game we'll approach the same way we have every other game."
