Joe Francis is now top scorer for Lynn with 20 goals (Linnets On Film) |
A hat-trick from striker Joe Francis and a brace from Matt Nolan helped King's Lynn keep pressure on at the top of the Southern League on Saturday. Cirencester, who have only won once away from home in the league this season, took the lead at The Walks after only two minutes.
The home side soon replied in style putting six goals past the Centurions.
Matt Nolan scored twice and Danny Bloomfield finished the rout with a late penalty.
Steve Robertson did score a consolation goal for the visitors on 62 minutes but it was not enough to put the result in any doubt.
The result makes no impact on the top of the league as both Team Bath (first) and Halesowen (second) also won.
The Linnets remain four points off the leaders Bath but will be encouraged by the day's positive performance.
Lynn defender Ben Chapman was pleased with the result after the disappointment of two draws in the last two games.
He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "After the early goal the lads responded very well to get back on level terms and then three rapid goals put us in front and in control.
"We needed to bounce back and get three points, we've got to look forward to Monday now."
King's Lynn travel to Bedford on Monday and will need to play just as well against a side that they have not beaten at The New Eyrie ground since 1979.
