Lucy Beere and Gayle Lloyd wait for Delhi go-ahead

Bowls and badminton

Commonwealth Games hopefuls Lucy Beere and Gayle Lloyd are waiting to find out if they qualify to represent Guernsey.

Beere had been named in the Bowls squad and Lloyd selected for the badminton team due to travel to Delhi in October.

However, there is doubt over their eligibility. Athletes must be born on the island or resident for five years immediately before the games.

Nathan Stevens, who left the island in February, has been ruled ineligible to be part of athletics squad.

The Guernsey Commonwealth Games Association said it regretted that the rules had been apparently disregarded when Stevens was first nominated.

A spokesperson said there was no possibility the Commonwealth Games Federation would allow him to compete.

It is hoped the CGF will grant special dispensation for Lloyd and Beere, who are resident in the island but for less than the required five years.
