Heather Knight to join England women's team in India

Cricket

Devon youngster Heather Knight has been summoned to join the England women's team on tour in India.

The 18-year-old will replace Sarah Taylor, who is returning home after suffering a hip injury in the opening one-day international.

"I'm sure she will seize this chance to impress," said former national team captain Clare Connor, now the head of England women's cricket.

"Heather is a talented cricketer, who scores huge runs at county level.

The loss of wicket-keeper/bat Taylor is, however, a major blow to England's chances of winning a series in India for the first time.

But the team overcame her absence to beat India by three runs in Sunday's second match in Bangalore and draw level at 1-1 in the five-match series.
