Women's Test match, Scarborough, day two of four (stumps): New Zealand 215 v England 285 Centuries from Charlotte Edwards and Laura Newton handed England Women a 70-run first innings lead over New Zealand on day two in Scarborough.
But the home side failed to capitalise on the duo's 163-run opening stand, slumping to 285 all out.
Newton took just 146 balls over her maiden Test ton, making 103 in all while Edwards was at her gritty best with 117 from 251 deliveries.
But she was the second of five wickets to fall for 26 runs late in the day.
Nineteen-year-old off-spinner Rebecca Steele took three of them, including Edwards and Lucy Pearson in successive deliveries.
