New Zealand gained a consolation victory after conceding the women's one-day series to England by claiming an 18-run win at Old Trafford.

In a rain-hit game that began at 11am and finished after 8pm, England were bowled out for 129 chasing 148 to win.

Pace bowler Louise Milliken took three wickets in four balls finish England, who had slumped to 47-5 early.

Haidee Tiffen led the White Ferns to 141-8, making 35 from 71 balls after the home side put them in to bat.

Bad weather cut the New Zealand innings short after 46 overs, and England's target was revised under the Duckworth/Lewis calculations.

Their target looked a long way off after three run outs, plus two wickets for 19-year-old Rebecca Steele.

Arran Brindle knuckled down with an unbeaten 34, but Milliken ended a crucial eighth wicket partnership by bowling Clare Taylor for 12 and followed up with the wickets of Luct Pearson and Isha Guha in the same over.
