Solanki to keep focus on Worcs

Vikram Solanki replaced Ben Smith as Worcestershire skipper in 2005

Worcestershire skipper Vikram Solanki says his new role with the Professional Cricketers' Association will not affect his captaincy at New Road.

Following chief executive Sean Morris's decision to stand down, Solanki has taken on extra responsibility.

But Solanki says he will only take on this enhanced role until a full-time replacement is appointed.

"I'm a year into a four-year contract, and I fully intend to be playing for Worcestershire next year," he said.

"This is just an interim period where I can take a more active role to make sure business remains as usual."

Morris, 41, who will leave the role at the end of October, took over the PCA role in January 2008 as successor to Richard Bevan.

His tenure coincided with some dramatic developments, including the rise of Twenty20 cricket and the terrorist attacks that interrupted England's tour of India last winter.
