Badsey-born Mitchell is also an occasional medium-pace bowler
Worcestershire opening batsman Daryl Mitchell has been appointed the county's new vice-captain at New Road.
Mitchell, one of Worcestershire's few genuine local boys, succeeds Gareth Batty following the former England spinner's end-of-season move to Surrey.
"To be offered the vice-captaincy at this stage is a great honour and one I am delighted to accept," said Mitchell.
"I am genuinely excited about the future and I look forward to working with skipper Vikram Solanki."
Badsey-born Mitchell was one of Worcestershire's few success stories in a struggling side last season, the county's only man to pass 1,000 first-class runs.
He reached that landmark in the penultimate Championship game in September when he hit a career-best 298 against Somerset at Taunton.
He has so far made 2,822 runs at an average of 38.65 since making his first-class debut in 2005.
