Cricketers' union chief resigns

Morris (left) has been heavily involved in England affairs

Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) chief executive Sean Morris has quit the organisation.

The 41-year-old took over the role from Richard Bevan in January 2008, presiding over one of the most revolutionary times in English cricket.

Morris was instrumental in negotiating an agreement with the England and Wales Cricket Board to allow its best players to play in the Indian Premier League.

PCA chairman Vikram Solanki will deputise until a replacement is found.

"I would like to place on record my thanks to all of the players for the support they have given me over the last 18 months," said Morris.

The former Hampshire batsman also played an influential role in ensuring England's players returned to India for the two-Test series following the Mumbai attacks last year.
