Hodd averaged 24.53 with the bat in the County Championship last season |
Sussex wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd has signed a new two-year contract at Hove. The 26-year-old made his first-class debut for Sussex in 2003 and moved to Surrey in 2004, before returning to the south coast the following year. "I want to perform to the best of my ability. I'm definitely looking to cement my place in the side in all three formats of the game," said Hodd. Coach Mark Robinson added: "He has it in him to be outstanding. It is now up to him to produce the results." Hodd played 10 first-class games last season, often solely as a batsman as he vied for the gloves with Ben Brown. His 319 runs, including one hundred and one half-century, helped Sussex to the County Championship Division Two title, while he also weighed in with 225 runs in 10 knocks in the Clydesdale Bank 40. "I want to help the club move forward as much as possible," added Hodd. "Obviously we've gone up to Division One and we're serious about putting a title challenge in. "One-day cricket worked quite well for me last year, but my Championship form fell off a little bit and I also got healthy competition from Ben. "I think that is good for the both of us and hopefully it will spur me on to improve my game."
